Well I have finally mailed my dissertation to my committee thereby officially submitting it. So now I have to wait to get a date for the viva (defense) and then hopefully this long PhD business can be put behind me. There are no guarantees about what will happen at the viva though

I’ve just uploaded a new paper that got accepted for the SEDSI Conference in Raleigh in February. The title is “The dual nature of egovernment: content management in Horry County” [PDF].

I thought you might find this interesting. It’s an old paper [PDF, 1.4Mb] that I wrote when I did my undergraduate work in Sweden, written around 1994-1995 somewhere. The title is “A new way of thinking”.
Years ago me and a colleague essentially wrote a textbook for an online course on groupware. That course never happened and our “book” was never used, but I was pretty proud of it. Here’s my part of that “book”: “Groupware Systems” [PDF]. By now, it is a couple of years old and somewhat outdated but perhaps it can be useful to someone.
Although pretty old, and not really a publication, it’s still dear to my heart. This is my bachelor dissertation entitled “Feedback of positive experience in a nuclear powerplant - a step toward the learning organization” [PDF]. It’s unfortunately only available in Swedish. The original title is “Positiv erfarenhetsåterföring i ett kärnkraftverk - ett steg på vägen mot en lärande organisation”. In short, it deals with why, within a nuclear power plant in Sweden, they did not share experience about, for example, new ways of replacing broken parts, while at the same time being very good at sharing experience from things gone wrong.
Here’s a paper I wrote for the SeInfORMS conference in 2002. It’s entitled “Students’ exposure to online learning material: is more always better?” [PDF]. The main finding is that for the studied courses, the more students accessed the online learning environment, the better grades they got at the end of the course.
I presented a paper entitled “Can open-source software replace commercial products in MIS teaching? Using mySQL in an introductory MIS class” at the SEinfORMS conference. You can get the paper here [PDF-file]. I had a good time writing this paper. It’s not my best work ever (what is?
but I enjoyed this topic. I must say I am especially drawn to open-source software, and recommend it to my students whenever I can. I will definitely continue to write about open-source.
