I might not have been quite awake yet when I saw it scrolling by in Google Reader this morning, but I thought I saw something familiar, which as it turns out was the Nabaztag, one of the items I reviewed in today’s The National newspaper.
I’m really excited about the possibilities that opens up when reaching the audience of a national newspaper. For next article I’m already working on looking at some of the recently released thin PC notebooks, including the Dell Adamo. Even though I’ve never really completely given up using Windows computers it’s nice to in a sense get back in the game again. Being a gadget lover, I like trying anything, not just Apple stuff
If you don’t have a paper copy you can read the article online.
Today we lay the groundwork for something pretty exciting. Although we’re not ready to reveal all the details just yet I can tell you that today we principally agreed with a major newspaper in UAE to write gadget/tech reviews for them. Shufflegazine would get a page every two weeks for reviews and commentary on the latest tech and gadgets. That’s pretty exciting. It takes us away somewhat from the core of Apple stuff as we now would cover everything but we’ll of course keep the magazine and Shufflegazine.com as they are. Since we don’t get paid for these articles the tradeoff is of course exposure for us. A newspaper reaches more people every day than we do in a month.
Since I’ll be the main writer of these articles, at least for the foreseeable future, I quickly get into the somewhat scary but also very exciting position of being one of the best known tech writers in the country. Every two weeks I get published, with my name and credit to Shufflegazine.com, and thousands of people will read what I have to say.
So even though everything is agreed in principle and the first article should be published next week, we’ll get back to you with all the details. For now, I’ll leave you with my excitement
Not much and everything at once. Both Crystal and I have been very busy with CENTIMETERCUBE and Shufflegazine. We’ve both promised to try to get better at writing here on the site but let’s see how it goes.
I’ve changed something fundamental in my life, I’ve changed jobs. But more than that I’ve completely changed careers. For eleven or so years I’ve been teaching IT at college and university and now I’ll be Director of Communications for CENTIMETERCUBE. There is a list a mile long of things I need to do when we get back to Dubai in a few days time but I’m excited. This is a fresh start in many ways, for me as well as Crystal, so we hope for the best!
Well yesterday Crystal was babysitting some friend’s kids and had to step in a little puddle of water, fell badly and now has two fractures in her right knee. I had to leave work early and couldn’t get a taxi for about 20 minutes so I gave up and just walked (took me about 90 minutes) through Abu Dhabi. She’s doing okay though and can actually get around a bit with a knee-brace and crutches.
Last week at the Emirates Palace during the Middle East International Film Festival, a lot of people there were sick, with coughs and runny noses. Of course I got it and it was all I could do to get through Thursday’s press conference. Then Saturday I was doing better… that was until this morning when I felt like crap again. I got to school, did my first class, but that was it. So I left early, and I’m now trying to doctor the cold so I can go back to work. I doubt that will be tomorrow though, perhaps Thursday.
You would think it would have been enough with the car crash, the Blackberry, and having the stomach bug, but no, of course not. Now I’ve had a sinus infection for going on the fourth day, with soar throat, throbbing head ache, and all that good stuff. Will it ever end?
Update: you know it’s bad when you turn off AC and still have to wear a thick sweater and be under blankets not to freeze.
You know, sometimes you just feel like you’re having bad luck, right? Well lately it’s been a bit too bad for me. Within about two weeks, I left my iPod in the seat pocket of an air plane, I had crashed our car resulting in thousands of dollars in damage (covered by insurance), dropped my Blackberry cracking its screen, had a stomach bug for about two days where I couldn’t eat or drink at all, and now I’m getting soar throat. Man, oh man, does it ever end? Well, there are some good things that have happened in all of this too, if you can believe that, and I hope we can tell you about that sooner or later.
